Versus Chess lets you play an online game of chess right on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Find an opponent instantly(which can be a bot if there isn’t a player available), or browse a list of players available right now.
When I first opened the application and went to find an opponent, no one was there(only the bots). After a few seconds of waiting I saw two people join the room and then I challenged one of them.
This game uses tap controls, which isn’t bad. . .but I prefer to be able to ‘grab and slide’ the pieces around. Touch the piece you want to move and you’ll see the squares that you can move them to. Touch the spot you want to move it and then the piece moves.
Now I understand that some chess players like to play timed games(and timed turns), but timing an entire game like this is not my idea of a fun game. I think if you’re going to pay almost 10 dollars for an application, something like this should be an option you can turn on/off in the settings. Maybe even the person challenging the other person can set whether they want to play a timed game or not.
Who is “Fabian” in screen shot..? I almost fell out of my chair…
Fabian.
@Fabian. . .lol they were the person I was playing in the game. :p
was it you?
not me.. :)

Love your website BTW!!!
F.
does anyone have this problem , after 3 days of purshasing the game , the app start to shut down after 20 second of turning it on!!?
App is very good, people who play here arent as much people as they are chess engines pretending to be humans. IE: cheats abound here, if you dont mind playing more bots and people using chess engines to cheat, then by all means plunk down the money. I get tired of playing computers though, if I wanted to do that I would plug in the newest chessmaster and let my computer play their computer. The app is very well done, the developers did a terrific job and on that merit i give this app 5 stars.
people who cheat are on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Maybe you should also check the new Chess apps from 99Games Online. They have two variations: Chess Lite ($0.99) and Chess Pro ($3.99). Chess Pro allows you to select multiple levels of complexity as well as some new variations not found on any of the chess apps on the App Store. The UI layout looks nice and cool, you can play in single player as well as two player mode. Something worth checking out.
