Urbanspoon uses the location feature(and random chance) to pick which restaurant close to you, that you should eat at. A cool feature is that you can ‘lock down’ specific categories and then make the others random. I think I would have been more impressed with this application had it actually included the city or county that I live in.
The rest of the application actually integrates the Urbanspoon.com website into the application(with user reviews, friends, etc. . .)
while at first this is a fun app to use when you cannot decide what to eat, the novelty wears off quickly. It also gets a little frustrating when you just want to find something close by and it keeps coming up with resteraunts all the way across town.
Definitely agree with Nick. Urbanspoon was one of the pioneers when it came out for the iPhone, but I think that the newer GoodFood (by Goodrec) is a better alternative to finding local restaurants.

GoodFood has a fully interactive map view like Google Maps, as well as fun and useful ways to filter content and an easy way to make your own short recs. It’s a bit like the twitter of restaurant reviews. It’s much easier to find and make recs on GoodFood than it is on Urbanspoon.
