I have been thinking about getting a professional theme for the website for about a month. After looking into a few reputable companies it’s going to cost between 500-1600 dollars to get one done. I have no where near that kind of money to spend on a new theme.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this theme, but it has it’s limitations. It’s a blog style theme. . .and I think a magazine/news style theme would do so much better for this kind of website(don’t you think?).
I found 2 themes tonight that I found rather interesting. Content Press and Money Blogger. I feel that by bringing the categories in front of you, and highlighting a few applications here and there(from the featured category), then it will be so much easier to browse the reviews.
I am leaning more towards the Content Press theme. If I went with the Money Blogger theme, I would need to get some custom work done(like moving the sidebar to the right side). So it will cost more. . .but it’s not different enough. There are subtle differences, but in the end it still just lists the posts down the page.
I want to get your opinion on the subject. I imagine many of you prefer the current theme, and don’t want things to change at all(believe me, I don’t like change either). But I would like to see the ratio. I think the Content Press theme can help to put more content into view. Like with this theme, you can see summaries for 5 different posts(which would be reviews) ‘above the fold’. On the current theme, we just see the the top half of a review before we have to start scrolling.
i like the look of the money blogger one but i prefer the layout of the Content Press one, i think the blog posts in that layout would be awesome for a review site like this
@MiniMacLean You know I have to agree with you 100%. If I could get the design and color scheme of Money Bogger, with Content Press, then it would be a home run(or the layout of Content Press with Money Blogger).
On a personal opinion I have to always go with layout/functionality over design/looks.
