Trails

itunes app store

Trails will actually record the route you take on any trip. This can be a walk/jog, trip, vacation, etc. It uses the GPS to find your exact location on the map, marks it, and then creates the route on the map.

Note – The 3G iPhone is required to for this application to work correctly.

Sadly you have to keep your iPhone on while it’s ‘tracking’ you. This is a limitation of the SDK, not the developer being lazy. The best idea is to turn WiFi off, and make the screen as dim as possible before running this application.

@Tammy, Now I believe it’s restricted to the iPhone 3G(since it’s dependent on the GPS hardware).

This is a great app. I use it on every mountain bike ride. I just turned off the ‘live map’ feature, and it tracks even when i’m not in 3G range. Also, the upload feature rocks. I am mapping all my trips out on the internet. 2 thumbs up.

The app looks very good if maps are not diplayed.
When displaying maps often the screen become black for ten seconds and sometimes much more.
I do not know if it is related to an attempt to switch between landscape and portrait mode or something else. Anyway it seems related to movement of the iphone.
