Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary is a portable dictionary resource with over 225,000 entries, complete with nicely integrated features to make quick and easy to find the definitions that you’re looking for. Use it at work, in school, or just as a way to look up words directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch.
It comes with features like suggestive search, history, wildcard search, similar word search(like a thesaurus), and some information that helps you read the definition(like pronunciation). The best part is that it’s all offline(great for iPod Touch owners), so that you don’t have to be online to fully use it.
Ugh. $25 for an iPod version of their dictionary? Hell, that’s MORE than the cost of the paper book. And it’s certainly not based of amount of effort, as this is basically just html with searches.
Hey Dave, A lot of the ‘official’ and ‘professional’ dictionaries seem to cost at least 10-20 dollars. I would never pay for it(I use Google), but if you don’t like to carry a fully dictionary around you can simply carry your iPhone(or iPod Touch). I guess it’s just ‘paying for the convenience’.
