Chess Club Gold is a chess application to teach new strategies and also practice those moves against the computer, your friends, and online opponents too. Practice your weaknesses and learn new things to enhance your strengths. Chess Club Gold has all of the features you would expect a chess application would have and a few that will surprise you.
If you want to play a game against the computer, you can do that. If you want to play against someone online, you can do that. If you want to play a practice game, you can do that. If you want to do a practice game with variants(like no rooks or no knights), you can do that too. And if you want to watch famous games(and even your own) you can watch them in their entirety. There are also chat rooms inside the games so there can also be a social aspect too.
The developer doesn’t say how many active members are in the ‘club’, but they did say that the club grew by 8,000 people in December alone.
The game controls by a ‘tap and tap’ method, and not a ‘touch and slide’ method. As a personal preference, I like the feel of being able to pick up a piece and drop it where I want. . .but that’s not a big deal. What I didn’t like about the controls is that sometimes you think you’re touching a piece, but nothing gets ’selected’. So a couple times I had to touch the screen 10 times before I could pick up the correct pawn(it wasn’t selecting wrong pieces, just not selecting pieces at all).
I didn’t see a point system, so when you play a random person, you have no idea what skill level they’re at.
