Now I never jumped on the Plants vs Zombies bandwagon until the iPad came out. I have never even played it before, but while browsing through the games that were available for the iPad, I decided to go with Plants vs Zombies first since I've heard so much about it, and heard about so many people getting addicted to it. I knew it was a tower defense style game with a twist, but again, I had never played it before. I just wanted to find the best game that would get have me playing it the longest(I heard Mirror's Edge was way too short).

I do like the tower defense genre, but I feel that it takes more than just originality to keep me engaged. With all of the clones going around, it's hard to find the cream of the crop.

Your 'money' is instead 'sun points' and during the day the fall from the sky, at night you must produce your own(with specific plants). You spend these 'sun points' on various plants with various powers. Some slow opponents, some shoot more/faster, some blow up grenade style, some distract zombies, etc. The goal is to prevent the zombies from reaching the left side of the screen(your house) and to do this you put those plants on squares of your choice.

The game ramps up very slowly, but during that time they let you learn different play styles. With LOTS of different plants to choose from, picking your favorite 6, 7, 8 etc(inventory slots grow as you progress) can get pretty difficult. But again, you usually find your style pretty early so it might feel like the game drags on. Throughout the game you'll do bonus style missions where they game the gameplay up on you. Sometimes you pick the plants as they scroll across the top, sometimes you play whack-a-zombie, but the goal is ultimately the same. . .keep them away from your house.

I have only reached the water stage so far, but I can see how people get hooked. I will definitely be putting more time into the game, and I am eager to see how the difficulty ramps up. I am pleased with my first iPad purchase, and I can't wait to see what other games will be developed on this platform in the future(and I can't wait to review them).

    I loved this game like anything… The combination of plants and zombies is great and I used to play it whenever I get time.
