So after your purchase iCompta, you will need to login to your bank account online, and find out how to 'download your data'. This should either be in a CSV, QIF, or OFX format(since those are the only formats compatible with this application) and once you have this file you can launch the iCompta application.

At the top of the application you'll see an http: web address. This will be the URL that you need to put into your web browser so that you can upload the file you downloaded from your bank. You will also need to access this URL from a computer/web browser than is connected to the same WiFi network for this to work(since it uses an internal ip address). After uploading the file you can restart the application on your device to make sure it loads it correctly.

Note - Now I have seen other applications that have the ability to upload files to the application via iTunes. I'm not sure why these developers didn't implement this, but maybe we can expect to see it in a future update.

After reloading the application and seeing the 'account' registered in the iCompta app, you will be able to browse through their features and actually see your money. Here you can easily analyze how much you are spending and what exactly you're spending money on. It's easy to just look at an account balance and think you have X dollars until the next paycheck. . .but with tools like this, just checking up on your account once per week can make you think twice the next time you're at that fancy restaurant.

The application makes it super easy to keep separate 'accounts'. This can either be for separate people in your house or family(like a spouse or child), or it can even be for multiple accounts that you have yourself. The graph feature is my favorite way of looking at this type of data. After importing your bank account into the application you'll see all of your transactions from your account. Here you can leave them as they are(if you think they're labeled correctly) or you can edit them and set certain transactions to certain labels. Then when you look at the graph for a specific time period, you can really see where your money goes, and where you can begin to cut back.

While I would like to see this application offer tips and suggestions on how to save some extra money, it really boils down to each person. . .some people get tired of living paycheck to paycheck and others don't. This isn't the first tool to offer this service(personally I use Mint.com), but you have to take control of your finances. Men can be just as bad as women in this department so this is really an application that can be helpful to everyone.

Fuel Log lets you keep track of the MPG of your car or cars that you own or just use(like a company car). Just enter the required details each time you put gas in the car, and it will calculate the average MPG that you get with your driving style.

There isn't much to see here. It's a simple application that does simple calculations. The one nice feature is the 'graph' that you get after you use this application for a while. This is a nice feature because you can monitor your driving patterns over any specified time(maybe you drive faster on the weekends or something). I feel that the developer needs to add more features and improve the design of the application to justify the 3 dollar price point(I mean essentially it is just a calculator).

Compoundee is a compound interest calculator for your iPhone and iPod Touch. Now you can quickly figure out what you have to invest, and for how long you have to invest it without having to go to the back and ask. . .and without having to do complicated tasks with a standard calculator.

Compoundee lets you set the rate, duration, deposits, and principal of any future investments that you're planning. All you have to do is call up your bank and find out what kind of rate that you get for a savings account, then you can do the rest right from your device. Calculator applications have become a highly flooded market in the App Store. A developer is gonna have to do something special to stand out in the crowd. While this application is very detailed and full of specific settings to customize, I don't think it really lives up to the expectation that some customers have in a $1 iPhone app. However this would be the ideal application for a banker, or someone that works with investing money. Although I would imagine a calculator like this is readily available on the computer that someone at a bank uses, maybe it would be useful on the go. I know I get asked to fix computers all the time(from friends and family), maybe the same happens to people who work with saving accounts?

StockWatch combines the usefulness of the original Stocks application with the ability to manage a portfolio, watch mutual funds, indexes, and more. A lot of people think Apple skimped out by not giving the Stocks app portfolio functionality.

Some people would say that StockWatch is the answer to this missing feature. Some people are disappointed because they are unable to find specific mutual funds(ones that are listed in Bloomberg). I would make sure you check the exchanges supported before expecting to see your quote in the system. The only thing I didn't like about the application is that it seems to load slow. It's like the data loads first, then a pause, and then the template loads and makes it look how it's supposed to. This tends to get really annoying after you start to use it a lot.

Pro Tip is yet another tip calculator available in the App Store. This app isn't much different than others available, but this one does give you more control over what kind of tip you give. You enter your total bill like you normally would, then after you can set the tip percentage, the tip amount, or the total bill. Adjusting any of these variables will auto-calculate the rest.

Shared Expenses is a complex and detailed bill splitter that lets you add a bunch of specific details(and keep track) of a specific event with multiple people. It will save the information so you can monitor who pays you and who has yet to pay you.

Adding an event or bill allow you to record all of the details about it as well. Give it a name, description, total bill, how many people were involved, etc. You can also send an email reminder to anyone who has yet to pay for their share of the bill. It would be nice if this application was redesigned but it does work the way it's supposed to. I just thinks the application looking very basic and bare but other than that it's fine. Shared Expenses is great if you tend to forget who has paid you and who has yet to pay you for a mean or a concert or any other social gathering. It's never good to lose money just because you forgot to remind your friend about it.

TipOver is yet another tip calculator that you can carry around wherever you go. Simply open the app, enter your total bill, tell it how many people are in the party, and then what percentage you want to tip. They call it TipOver because it rounds the total up, so you don't have to worry about carrying around coins/change. They use two spin wheels to determine how much you want to tip and how many people the bill should be split between(instead of making you manually enter the numbers). Touching the small 'i' at the top left brings you to the settings page where you can toggle 'tip over' mode, session saving, and even include a tax percentage. TipOver isn't anything special, but what it does it does well.

Net Paycheck is a calculator application lets you find out things like, on average how much do you make per hour. . .how much you would make after a pay raise. . .and even how much you make after taxes and retirement.

They give you a slider at the bottom so you help you change a pay raise or deduction without having to re-enter the income every time. You also get an advanced tab that you can set options like hourly wages, deductions, overtime, etc. This would be a great idea for managers/bosses, as it would save them some time from having to manually do all of these calculations for each person that works for htem. I find it odd that the developer decided to put a disclaimer saying 'I am not responsible for any errors or inaccuracies of the application'. A calculator application is usually straight forward. . .unless they just didn't have any confidence the application, I'm not sure why they decided to include this. The application seems to work correctly. . .but that disclaimer makes me feel that I need to check the totals on another calculator.

Fund Watch lets you monitor and track any mutual fund that you own or have interest in. Just like the official stocks application, you can enter your portfolio of mutual funds and not only check the current prices. . .but also the historical prices.

Fund Watch come with 3 mutual funds already added, but you can add more or remove the current ones. Just touch the small 'i' at the bottom right and you will see a list of funds that you can add(either by scrolling or by searching). Touching a fund will add a check to the right of it, and then that will add it to the main page so that you can see the graph.

mTip is a tip calculator with a nice handful of settings that enables you to customize it to your personal preference. Decide whether or not you you want to give a small tip, medium, or a large tip. . .how many people the bill should be split between. . .as well as if you should calculate the tip before or after the tax.

Customizing this application is what makes it shine. You don't have to be forced with specific levels of tips(with the stars), go into the settings and set it up to your liking. Compared to most of the other tip calculators, I think mTip really has the customizable settings that makes it better than the rest.

Simple Cash is a complete budget(and money) management tool for your iPhone and iPod Touch. You can set individual budgets for food, bills, electronics. . .as well as manage the finances for your family and/or business(es).

The application seems rather cumbersome at first, but once you start using it and begin adding things bit by bit, it starts to become easier to use(and read). My favorite aspect of this application is the ability to add everything from personal finances, credit cards, banking accounts, business funds, etc.

MileBug makes it easy to move that data around too. Simply go to the reports tab and send it to your email address, or any email address. Wall Street Words put an entire street brokers dictionary in the palm of your hand. With over 4,500 entries and many include charts and graphs to help illustrate the entry.

With a bookmarking and history feature you'll never forget that entry that you remember finding the other day(and possibly forgot to bookmark it). This application comes with over 4,500 entries you don't want to have to re-search or scroll to find it. Which is where the bookmarking becomes very useful.

Trip Cubby is an easy to use, yet very structured way to replace the pad and pencil when you have to track the mileage.

You can keep track of things like destination, purpose, odometer, deduction rates, drivers, vehicles and more. You can then look at the trip details in an easy to ready form or export the data via email.

Another great feature is the search. Initially you can search by the names of the trips, but if you want to get down into more details you can. You can search for things like tags, drivers, vehicles, or and a specific time frame.

Accountr is a budget manager for your iPhone and iPod Touch. Manage your income and expenses on-the-go as it happens. I think this application is trying to be too advanced for it's own good(maybe it's just me). In the description it says they want you to use it 'on-the-go'. . .but forcing you to enter a category and sub-category for entries is a bit much to ask while the person is in a store. I think this would do better if the UI was redesigned to allow a 'quick entry' as well as a 'complete entry'.

Pennies is a very polished budget tracker. Set your monthly budget and then you can start adding expenses as you spend your money. This is great if you always end up asking yourself 'Wait, didn't I have more money than this?'.

You can either add an expense right from the home screen, or you can go to the Expenses tab. Here you will see a list of each current expense that you have previously entered. Adding an expense is very easy too. Touching the + sign at the top right will take you to a number pad with categories above it. Touch the category that the expense is in, then how much it is, and then touch Save.

On the This Month tab you'll also see a Top Expenses area. Touching the small badge lists the Top Expenses for this month. After extended use the History tab becomes useful. After a month it begins to display the previous expenses that you added. This is great for looking for specific trends how you spend your money.

CheckPlease is a tip calculator for your iPhone and iPod Touch. With two sliders this interface is not only easy to use and they make it quick to figure out the tip and/or split the bill.

Touching the 'i' in the bottom right takes you to the settings for CheckPlease. Here you can turn on/off expert mode and set the default tip/tax %.
