ACTPrinter lets you carry any documents that you would normally print. . .but lets you bring it with you as long as you have your iPhone or iPod Touch. Never waste another piece of paper again!

Note – This only works if you have a Mac computer. . .and only works if you download the special ACTPrinter application.

Instead of printing stuff like normal you print it from the application and then it will send the document to your iPhone or iPod Touch(instead of printing it on paper). This is great because you don’t have to use a piece of paper for 2 seconds(like with directions) and then throw it away. . .PLUS you don’t have to take the time to write it down(if you don’t have a printer).

I can’t personally review this application because I don’t have a Macintosh computer. . .but I have looked over the iTunes reviews(and talked to a few readers) and people who have purchased this application are very happy with their experiences.

RainbowNote is a beefed up version of the standard Notes application that comes with your iPhone and iPod Touch. The bonus here is that you can do much more with this application than you can with the one Apple gives you.

With RainbowNote you can set a theme for the notes(over 30 to choose from), choose the sort method(3 to choose from), search for notes, change the font size, backup/restore, and even import and export to Google Docs(which is the best way to backup).

Some people who use the notes application a lot(and have been begging for a way to search and/or sort their massive amounts of notes. Since Apple hasn’t added these features yet, RainbowNote steps in to do just that.

Wide Email started out as just a landscape email application that let you type up emails in landscape mode. But now it’s advanced to much more, learning the shortcuts lets you write up multiple lines of content with just a few letters.

When you first open up the application it goes immediately to a new email. From here you can type it in both landscape and portrait mode. Once you’re done just press the button ‘Send to Email’ and it will take the text and insert it into the stock email application. This is very useful for when you need to type up a long email and hate typing when it’s in portrait mode. Landscape mode makes the keyboard much wider which makes it easier and quicker to type.

To learn the shortcuts you have to cancel the email that the application immediately opens up. I don’t think this is the best idea since a LOT of people wouldn’t even know about them. The application comes with a bunch of default shortcuts already setup, but you can go in and both edit the existing ones, and you can also add new ones.

Todo+Cal+Sync is a complex todo application that has an integrated Calendar to keep everything inside the application. Give your tasks tags for work, home, urgent, etc, which are all editable. Todo+Cal+Sync lets you completely customize your tasks.

You can even give the tasks a location(coordinates and text), status, priority, subtasks, and even it’s own color(to make it easy to find), you can be as specific or as broad as you’d like. They also let you sort your tasks in many different ways, and each way has it’s own button at the bottom. These buttons are pretty small because there are so many, but the last 2 really don’t need to be there(and the email action button doesn’t either). Those last two buttons(which are to edit and add tags) could be put into the settings page and that would free up some room at the bottom.

While this application isn’t poorly designed, all of the features seem to be packed in tight because there are so many. It feels like the features are too packed in, and it’s just not as easy to use as it should be. Maybe if they stripped it down to it’s bare basics, and just let the advanced features come in when the user enables them.

Note(this doesn’t pertain to this specific application, just iPhone apps in general) – For some reason when I think of a good application on the iPhone I expect it to do all(or most) of the work for me. I shouldn’t have to look over the application to find out how to use it. I should be able to open it up, and let it take me through step by step what’s going on. When I say step by step I don’t mean pages of text either. . .I mean from a design perspective. This is very hard to do, but developers have to remember they’re making applications for an Apple product. Most of the people who own an iPhone are Apple fans because of their design style. I see a lot of ‘windows’ looking apps being released on the iPhone and it just doesn’t compliment the device(in my eyes).

Fonix iSpeak English is one of the five versions of Fonix iSpeak. . .it also comes in French, Spanish, Dutch and Italian. And is a fully featured hands-free voice dialing application for your iPhone(both 2G and 3G).

I say hands-free, but you do have to launch the application. . .and sadly there is no bluetooth support right now. This isn’t because the developers didn’t include it, but because Apple doesn’t allow it(yet).

Once you open the application it loads up your contacts, then just by saying ‘Call [name]‘ and it will call that person. If you want to specify a number(mobile, work, home), you can say that after saying their name. You can also say ‘Dial [number]‘ and it will call the number, or ‘redial last number’ or just quit(to exit the application hands-free). I think if Apple ever allows you to specify an application to open by double clicking the home button, setting it to this would be perfect for making calls in the car(especially when bluetooth gets included).

I tested this with all of the contacts in my list. While that list isn’t huge(like 5 or 6 entries), it did contain both names and words(I use ‘Marker’ for a test contact). Voice Recognition software isn’t perfect, but it can be very accurate. After using this for 20 minutes, it only got confused a couple times.

Note – Be sure to wait until the microphone turns red before you tell it what to do.

With mSecure you can store your passwords, drivers license, credit card, birthdays, and anything else you need to have access to on-the-go. And don’t worry, your data is safe(when you protect it with a password) with 256-bit encryption.

There are a couple password/data managers in the App Store, but mSecure is one of the easiest ones to use. Give each item an unlimited number of fields for notes, numbers, names, locations, etc. Anything you want to add you can.

I always hate it when I’m at my desk and need my credit card number which is in my wallet and in the other room. This application has saved me from burning those extra calories and having to go get my wallet(I always keep my iPhone next to me). If you always find yourself reaching for your wallet or going through your bills just to find that insurance policy number. . .looking for that postit note with the username and password for a website. . .or even your passport number for trips, then mSecure is perfect for you.

Assignments is an organizer that lets you keep track of all your school related tasks, from homework to tests. . .never forget about another assignment for school(or really anything).

Assignments is a handy way to keep track of homework, projects, tests, anything school related. Not only does it organize everything but it also reminds you when your tasks are due(to stop you from forgetting).

While the application is targeted towards students, it could be used by multiple professions and even for your personal tasks too. But if you use it for school work then you’ll be able to specify classes allowing you to organize your tasks unlike any other todo list application in the App Store. My favorite feature is the number badge that they tack onto the icon, telling you how many items are due(adding yet another way to remind you).

The application controls and feels good and smooth, although sometimes it seems that it gets slightly jumpy from time to time.

Contacts2Go lets you quickly and easily send previously saved contacts to another email address. This works in two different ways though, you would think to naturally send the contact details of someone else. But you can also add yourself as a contact and send your own contact details quickly and easily.

It is completely configurable via the Options page, with a bunch of settings to make the application send only the information that you want it to.

Contacts2Go is a great app if you’re at a conference or a party and you want to quickly email your contact details(vCard) or the details of someone else that you know.

Ultimate Todos is a massive to do application that brings just about every feature you could imagine into it. The initial dashboard that you see is huge filtering system. You can view all of your tasks this way but you can also break it down and only look at low priority, active, completed, waiting, etc.

When you add a to do item you can give it a title, misc notes, tags, contexts, set the status/priority, a voice note or even associate it with someone in your contact list. Ultimate Todos also lets you synchronize your to do list over to your computer with Toodledo.

Most people will not need a to do list that is this complex. . .but there are some that have been waiting for a to do list that does more than just the basic functions.

QuickTally is a simple application used to do 1 thing. . .getting the total of whatever you want. Essentially it’s just like the calculator application. . .but it only does addition. Much like a simple adding machine you can use it to tally up the total of things like a grocery list, bills, budget, etc.

All you do is put in a number, pressing ‘enter’ will finalize and bring that number to the top(so you can add another number). After adding another number you get a live total of you numbers. . .continue this until you don’t have anything else to add.

There isn’t anything else to this application. . .you can set it up so that it includes a tax %, but that’s it.

Lettera brings back old school writing with an old fashion ‘Italian style’ typewriter. Some writers say that it’s very hard to enjoy writing now that everything has switched from the typewriter to the keyboard. Now you can bring back that feeling. . .and do it all from the iPhone/iPod Touch.

If you have an iPhone(or are have the earphones in with your iPod Touch) then you’ll hear the typewriter sounds just as if you’re typing on a typewriter. You can choose the style of the paper if you want to. . .mimicking grid paper, lined paper, legal pad, cardboard, etc.

After you’re done typing, the text shows up on the paper like an image. You can use the multi-touch to zoom in and scroll around just like any other images.

The typewriter goes into landscape mode to make it easy to type. . .but with the letters so small it’s worse than doing it on the standard iPhone keyboard.

MnemoSkinn+ is a organizational to do list that users previously saved templates to make it easy to do previously used lists. This is great if you normally get the same stuff from the grocery story because you can just load a template that you have saved.

This is not an application that you can quickly create a new list. Yes, it’s great if you just need to load a previously saved list, but if you have to create a brand new list it will take you a minute or two. Personally I think a list application like this should be easy for you to go in and add items. Instead, they added a bunch of extra features(like category style groups) that makes this application that much difficult.

It’s probably just a learning curve that makes it seem complex. . .but an application like this should take 2 seconds to jump in and create a list.

SplashShopper is a list manager that goes far and beyond simple shopping lists. Manage your groceries, errands, emergencies, movies, wines, etc. The categories come pre-stocked with loads of items. So if you’re going to the grocery store you don’t have to type in everything you want, just go through the pre-stocked items and setup which ones you need(you should only have to add unique/obscure items).

You can backup and transport the lists too. Either sync them to your PC/Mac or even email the list to someone. This way the data isn’t confined to SplashShopper and you can take your data anywhere.

SplashID is a password manager that can keep track of way more than passwords. Keep information like passwords, credit card information, email accounts, checking accounts. . .really just any information that you need access to but hate having to remember the details.

Instead of saying ‘I have to wait until I go home to get that information’ you will always have anything you need directly in your iPhone or iPod Touch. You don’t have to worry about this information being leaked either. When you first open it up it asks you to setup a password and it will use that password to not only lock out other people but it also uses it to encrypt the data(with 256-bit Blowfish encryption).

Priority Grid is like a complex task manager. Setup up to 3 ‘main priorities’, and within those priorities you can set individual tasks to that you do in order to achieve that goal. Priority Grid acts as a reminder in case you tend to forget the goals you set for yourself.

Keep your priorities organized and kept on file so that you never forget about what you need to do. At any time you can remove a priority or even reorder them so that you know which ones are more important, or which ones you want to work on first.

You also set an amount of time that you should dedicate toward that task. I think it would be great if they added the ability to touch a button and start a timer(or countdown) so that you can monitor how much time you’ve actually spent toward that task(for that day).

iBlue Sky is a brainstorming application that lets you visually map out idea(in a bubble format) and link them together(like you did in school). Now you can add a new idea/thought to any current project you’re working on, so you never lose potentially great ideas.

It comes with landscape mode to make it easier to manage and look at your overall project. In this mode you can slide/drag around the project, using the 2 finger pinch to zoom in/out(just like you would with a photo or website).

You have all the tools you would need to make it feel like you’re righting this down on paper(cutting, copying, deleting, etc).

FlipCounter Plus is a retro-style counter application that lets you control up to 8 different counters(2 of which are setup to go in reverse). You can set it up and let it count multiple #s at once(so it’s not just 1 at a time). It also uses a unique ‘flip clock’ design to add that sense of style to the counter.

You tap on the counter to make it go up a digit(or more depending on the how you set it up), but you can also undo a count and take it away. This is great when you need to keep track of multiple things at the same time.

I thought it was odd that it was completely manual. Meaning that you can’t touch ‘start’ and let the counter(s) just count by themselves. Then again that would essentially turn it into a timer. . .but maybe it would be a nice feature to have just in case.

FileSync lets you synchronize images and documents from any remote FTP directory into the application. Just setup the FTP details and then you can sync the files anytime, anywhere. . .with only a touch of a single button.

The file formats that are compatible with this application are. . .PDF, DOC, HTM, TXT, and JPG.

Sadly this doesn’t put the files anywhere except inside this application(so you’re stuck with those compatible file formats). I imagine it would be nice to be able to save txt files to like the notes application. . .or photos to the Photo Roll, but I don’t see anything in the description that says this is a feature(and I wasn’t unable to fully test it since I don’t run an FTP server on my computer).

44 Jots is a GTD manager with media notes(audio and pictures). You also get an archive feature for those important notes that you need to go back and reference at any time. It comes with a search feature too, which makes it super easy to find a note you’re looking for. . .which is good if you end up taking a lot of notes with it.

44 Jots reminds me of the PhotoJot application. . .except with a lot less features. PhotoJot is geared more toward photographers, but so this is like a slimmed down version of it.

I think this would do much better if the developer combined both applications, but allowed you to customize the extra detail fields. Like if you don’t need voice notes, then let the user remove it from the ‘add new jot’ page. . .and the same goes with location, date, photos, or voice.

PhotoJot is even on sale right now for $2.99. . .and since it allows you do to more, I would recommend getting it instead of this one. The only thing that PhotoJot doesn’t have that 44 Jots has is search. But if they combined both apps, then it would be the best of both worlds.
