Periodic Table and Chemistry Calculator used to be called ChemiCal, and that’s what it says under the icon after you install it. With this calculator you can quickly and easily take a formula and find out the mass of one mole from that chemical.

Other than the calculator you also get a full interactive periodic table and 3 lists of the elements(one for name, one for number, and one for symbol). This makes it as easy as possible to quickly find the exact element you’re looking for. Going into the details of one will tell you it’s atomic number, average mass, density, etc.

This isn’t exactly the best periodic table iPhone application that I’ve seen, but it is the cheapest(there might be a free one out there, I haven’t actively searched the App Store for one). ChemiCal does make searching through the periodic table pain-free and very quick.

Advanced English Dictionary & Thesaurus is yet another dictionary application in the App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This one actually includes a thesaurus though, which is at least something to help it stand out from the rest.

Advanced English Dictionary & Thesaurus comes with every feature you would expect from a dictionary application on the iPhone. Then again that’s where it fails. With dozens of dictionary applications in the App Store there has to be at least one major feature to stand out from the crowd.

A feature I would like to see is the ability to hear the word(over the iPhone’s speaker) that you’re looking up. It does a good job of showing you how to pronounce it, but being able to hear the word would be optimal for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Right now at $3.99 that is a decent price to. I say decent because there are some that are free(with less features) but there are some that are way more expensive(with less features as well).

Wikipanion Plus is the full, paid version of Wikipanion. The biggest difference between the two applications is the addiction of ‘Queue Mode’ which also adds an offline mode(of sorts).

Although both versions are being updated and even the free version has some good features, I imagine the goal of the developers will be to put the big and most unique features in this premium version, but I do love how he’s updating the free version as well.

Anyone could just go to Wikipedia in MobileSafari for access to the entire website but I am a fan of native applications. Not only does it look better than a web app, but it also enables you to have richer, integrated features.

Just like in the free version you get suggestive search, to help you find other similar entries. While you’re in an article you also have a button at the bottom for related entries. To make it easier to read it comes with a landscape mode so that can turn it sideways and make the font bigger(and just a wider screen in general).

That’s right, we have an iPhone application too! With this mobile application you can check on the latest content available on AppStoreApps.com. Everything is divided up so that you can look at only the content you want, whether it’s reviews, apps on sale, or the top free and paid apps.

It’s a very simple application, so don’t expect too much. It only uses the RSS feeds to spread out all of the latest content. If you want to see both paid and free app reviews, there is a page for that. If you just want to see free app reviews there’s a paid for that(and a page for paid app reviews). It also has a page for apps on sale and even a ‘top’ page, that is split for the best free and paid apps.

When you touch on a name it will just close the application and open MobileSafari. Taking you to the AppStoreApps.com page with the content you want. If you touch an app in the ‘top’ page, it will take you directly to the page in the official App Store application.

The developer that has been doing all the work for this application is currently working on an internal browser, so it will parse the actual text and screenshots instead of forcing you to open up MobileSafari.

EleMints is the entire Periodic Table at your fingertips. Not only is it a table but it also gives lots of details about the elements and a wide variety of ways to sort, group and list all of the listed elements.

The features that comes with EleMints is very nice. From portrait and landscape mode, shaded periodic table, and the groups that you let to browse through all of the elements exactly how you want to.

The developer says that there will be lots of new features coming in future updates. And it’s always good to see the developers that are continuing to update their apps even after the initial release. A lot of them out there feel that it’s a waste of time and money but it really shows the loyalty and dedication to their customers.

Ferienplan lets you know exactly when the schools will be on vacation for the country of Germany. The developer says they will update it for the new year(2010) when the data is available.

You can go to the settings page and pick a state that you want to see the vacation time for.

Color Expert is an application for artists, designers, decorators, and anyone who just loves colors. Not only do you get a color wheel for finding colors that match and look good together, but you also get swatch library for a seemingly endless amount of colors.

I am horrible at picking out color schemes for a website, or really any type of project. Color Expert(and the Color Wheel) makes it super easy to pick 1 base color and then find other colors that match and look good with it.

Japanese is a Japanese-English and English-Japanese dictionary that you can reference at any time. Look it up via words, expressions, proverbs, etc. and even test your skills by taking tests to challenge yourself.

A cool feature with this application is the ability to add your own items within the definition. With over 115,000 entries you can fool anyone into believing you could actually write/speak Japanese. This dictionary all runs offline so you’re never forced into keeping an internet connection just to use it.

Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary is a portable dictionary resource with over 225,000 entries, complete with nicely integrated features to make quick and easy to find the definitions that you’re looking for. Use it at work, in school, or just as a way to look up words directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

It comes with features like suggestive search, history, wildcard search, similar word search(like a thesaurus), and some information that helps you read the definition(like pronunciation). The best part is that it’s all offline(great for iPod Touch owners), so that you don’t have to be online to fully use it.

AirYell is a local business finder that finds your location and then lets you search for things like pizza, gas, bars, etc. Just let it find you and then do a search(like you would in the yellow pages).

When you find what you’re looking for you can do a couple things. Touch the # and you’ll immediately call the business. . .touch the + and it will add the business to your contacts. . .or touch the map icon and look at the business on the map(so that you can get easy directions).

Converter ++ is an intuitive and organized converter that comes with over 450 different units to convert(inside 24 categories). Just pick which type of unit you want to convert, input the value and then go back to the categories(you will then see the rest have been converted).

Categories include acceleration, angle, area, electric charge, electric current, electromotive force, energy, force, length, luminance, mass, power, pressure, radioactivity, speed, temperature, time, torque, dynamic viscosity, volume, and more.

Wikipanion is a great way to search Wikipedia and find exactly what you’re looking for. When you pull up an article you’ll see that it formats it in a special way so that it’s easy to read on the device.

Touching the ’4 line’ icon at the bottom brings up the ‘contents’ for that article. Here you can touch a section and go straight to that part in the article.

This is a Thesaurus for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It is very simple. . .search for a term and get your results. Don’t forget, that from within each search, you can go into a result, which in itself is another search for another word.

Not only do you get noun synonyms but you get verbs as well. They also give you the ability to email any of these results to yourself or a friend.
